The Struggler's Anthem

Get behind me,

Satan.

Though you serve me

Spoonful after spoonful

The bitter taste

Of your reign on earth,

My pallet will not

Become numb.

My thirst for goodness

Will not diminish.

My hunger for truth

Will not ease up.

I will not turn my back on,

Lose hope in,

Look away from

The One who is good.

For He was there

Before you.

He reigns over you.

His hands made you.

He will defeat you.

And his victory

Has already been declared.

On the appointed day

I will laugh with Him

As you fall from the sky.

The great dragon

Defeated.

Plummeting

From your throne

To the nothingness

You have created.

Sickness is your slave,

And she will turn on you.

Death, your weapon.

It will explode in your hands.

You will be caught

In your own selfish snare,

Become entangled

In the webs you have weaved.

You have sewn

Seeds of wrath

And will, yourself

Consume their rotten fruit.

Your harvest awaits you.

You must swallow it whole.

Traps of destruction

You have set

For the sons and daughters

Of the God Most High

Will clamp down,

Unrelenting,

On your own ankles.

For you have built them strong

And poised them well.

Your empty promises

Will be abolished.

The chains of your craftiness

Will confine you

And in your dark deeds

You will drown.

When the day of rejoicing comes,

When we laugh,

The King and I

Together with all the saints,

It will not be a joy

That revels in destruction.

Even of you.

Nor will we rejoice

In the wrath of the Lord,

For it is great

And wholly to be feared.

Our laughter will erupt

As the gates of waiting

Are dashed to pieces,

Folly overcome by a flood

Of joy, righteousness,

And peace.

When that day comes,

The chains of your craftiness

Will confine you.

The Light of life

Will squeeze you out

Like filth wrung

From a wet rag.

So break me

If you must,

For He has been sent

To bind up the brokenhearted.

I will not turn my back on Him

When you push me down.

For He came

To exalt the lowly.

You cash in your chips

On my sinful nature,

But I will be redeemed

By the Keeper of everlasting treasures.

When you shroud my eyes

With darkness,

I will wait for His light

Which makes all things clear.

When you defeat me

For a day,

I will wait patiently

For His victory

Which will be

From everlasting

To everlasting.

He will not be overcome.

And I am fully His.

So, get behind me,

Satan.

You waste your time.
